Winter holidays on the Renon – for nature lovers and connoisseurs

Do you remember the aura of magic that surrounded winter when you were a kid? Bring back that fairy-tale feel with a winter holiday on the Renon/Ritten plateau!

Explore the snow-coated landscapes around Hotel Rinner, enjoy the perfect powder under your skis, immerse yourself in the tranquillity of a snowshoe trail and contemplate the beauty of the Dolomites shining glorious under the sun.

Skiing and snowboard

The dainty Corno del Renon/Rittner Horn ski area is the perfect choice for anyone wishing to enjoy the slopes away from the large, boisterous ski resorts with their crowded pistes and après-ski parties. With its wide, gentle slopes, well-maintained pistes and laid-back atmosphere, the Corno del Renon ski area is ideal for beginners, leisurely skiers and families with young children.

The area also offers a terrain park for snowboarders, located by the intermediate station of the lift.

Tobogganing and snowshoeing

The snowy alpine meadows of the Renon plateau make the perfect setting for a snowshoe hike – one of the winter activities most cherished by those who love to contemplate nature off the beaten track. Away from the busy pistes, where the silence is broken only by the crisp sound of your feet trudging through the snow, you can finally spend some soul-soothing hours of quietness and tranquillity.

From December to mid-March, guided snowshoe hikes are organised on a weekly basis. RittenCard holders may participate free of charge, but please remember that pre-registration is required. The meeting point is by the ski school office at the valley station in Pemmern. If you prefer to explore the Renon area on your own, the digital hiking map may come in handy. We are also happy to share some insider tips and show you our favourite hiking routes!

If you would not mind spicing things up a bit, there is also a 2.5-kilometre-long natural toboggan run that starting from the cable car intermediate station winds through woodland and pastures down to the valley station in Pemmern. Toboggans are available for hire at a small fee. And if you feel like trekking all the way up to the start of the toboggan run, you can follow paths No. 7, 4 and 1.

Ice skating and cross-country skiing

Feel like going for a slide? The area around the Rinner hotel has plenty to offer for ice skaters and cross-country skiers. Few things are more relaxing than sliding across idyllic snowy landscapes, with the warm sunrays on your face and lots of pure mountain air in your lungs.

Skating on a frozen lake is a timeless enjoyment that can easily be arranged with a trip to the nearby Costalovara/Wolfsgrubener lake, but if you prefer a more urban setting you can choose between the ice rink in Soprabolzano/Oberbozen and the Arena Ritten ice hall and rink in Collalbo/Klobenstein.

Cross-country skiers can either hone their skills on the 5 km-long beginners’ trail or tackle a definitely more challenging 35-km trail. Both are perfectly maintained and offer elating views to the Dolomites’s peaks including the Sella range, the Sciliar/Schlern, the Marmolada and the Sassolungo/Langkofel and Sassopiatto/Plattkofel mountains.

Ice hockey and Bavarian curling

The Renon also has its own ice hockey team. So, during your holiday at the Rinner you might just be able to watch an exciting hockey match – remember to bring your RittenCard to enjoy free admittance at the Arena Ritten which, by the way, also hosts international Bavarian curling tournaments. This sport has a century-old tradition in South Tyrol and the Renon offers the perfect conditions to practise it, since the peculiar composition of the local waters allows for faster shots.
